Is a Typewriter the Best Tool?

  1. I'm glad I could provide some inspiration. (Here's my post for those who are curious.) I'd be interested in learning more about the students' experiences with typewriters.

  2. Nice points. Richard makes some good points also.
Technology is only a term. Unless applied to something it is quite meaningless. Kind of like one of change. The word by itself is nothing. what king of change? Same for technology. Typewriters are a mechanical wonder produced by mechanical technology. Today we have an overload of digital electronics technology. No one mentions the analog technology that makes the digital work. Too often we forget the meaning of technology is applied science or engineering.

  3. My 8 year old grandson has simplified this narrative as only a child can. He calls my typewriters "old technology" and that's the end of it. He loves using them for the same reasons I do: hit the keys, see a letter, lots of noise, lots of things moving around, the chance to stop and consider your next sentence. Works for me.
